People reports:
In an early episode of the CW’s hit drama, bad boy vampire Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder) flipped through a book in the Twilight series and dismissed it, saying, “This book, by the way, has it all wrong.” Scoffing at the idea of a vampire that “sparkles,” he also added, “I live in the real world where vampires burn in the sun.”
The cast and writers of Vampire Diaries are aware that being the latest blood-sucking drama to unfold following the success of Twilight and True Blood will inevitably force comparisons, but they’re not worried by it.
“When the show first started … you automatically thought Twilight,” Nina Dobrev, who plays mortal heroine Elena Gilbert, tells Nylon magazine. “But once you continue, there’s a whole other side of it that goes a lot deeper. It’s about letting everyone know that we’re different but we all respect each other.”
E! Online reports:
Good news if you are a fan of Leighton Meester and Nina Dobrev: Their executive producer has promised to “work on” getting these real-life friends to guest star on each other’s CW shows.
Here’s what Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl executive producer Bob Levy tells me:
“I love that idea!” Levy said of having Nina guest star on Gossip Girl and Leighton guest star on Vampire Diaries some time in the future. The idea came up while I was chatting with Nina and Levy at a recent press event, and Levy said: “We’re gonna work on that. You have my word.”
Leighton and Nina became friends while shooting the upcoming big-screen movie The Roommate, set to come out later this year. And Nina told me she would jump at the chance to make a guest appearance on the Upper East Side. “Oh my god, I would love to be on Gossip Girl,” Nina said. “I feel like it’s hard to do because we’re both so busy. But I would love to, and I would for her to be on our show. Leighton would make a great vampire, I think!”
The hitch, of course, is working out the logistics, given that Vampire Diaries shoots in Atlanta and Gossip Girl shoots in New York. “The trick is tearing Nina away from Atlanta,” Levy explained. “She’s in almost every scene of every episode. So it’s hard scheduling-wise to work that out. But I love that pitch! Good pitch. We’re gonna work to make it happen.”

Entertainment Weekly reports:
Melinda Clarke’s upcoming Vampire Diaries arc just got a whole lot juicier.
Executive producer Kevin Williamson tells me that Matt’s trashtastic mother, Kelly, will blow into Mystic Falls and waste no time digging her cougar claws into Ian Somerhalder’s Damon.“If I didn’t have Kelly and Damon hook up there would be no God,” declares Williamson with a laugh. “What’s the point of doing TV if you’re not going to put those two characters together? That’s going to be a fun relationship to explore.”
Of course, Williamson points out that Kelly Donovan has more to offer than a reputation as a bad mom and a healthy appetite for vampire sex. Clarke’s character also shares a rich history with the town’s adult population. “We’ll reveal that she was friends with Sheriff [Elizabeth] and Elena’s mother,” he says. “The three of them were really tight friends back in the day. Sheriff and Kelly, in particular, have ongoing issues to deal with.”
DVR alert: Clarke’s Vampire Diaries debut is slated for not soon enough March 25.
E! Online reports:
“The cork will be pulled on the whole basement thing,” boss Kevin Williamson teases. “Before the first season is over.”
“Vicki is definitely dead and won’t be coming back,” Kevin said when a reporter asked why Kayla Ewell (Vicki) said she wasn’t really dead.
The IMDB synopsis that says Elena will become a vampire in the next episode “is completely false,” boss Julie Plec said. “That happens in the books but it won’t happen on this show til like season 37.”Yay! You mean we get 37 seasons? You better get your non-aging, vampalicious cast some face cream, stat.
Damon and Elena are on! The road, anyway. As I teased a few weeks back, the unlikely pair will be taking a road trip (against her will) and it will lead to the blossoming of the full-fledged love triangle, with the first glimmers of a possible Damon and Elena pairing. “It’s not a love triangle with only two people and,” Nina says. “And now that the necklace is off, she’s very vulnerable. In the next episodes we’re going to see there’s going to be a lot of Damon and Elena.”
And…
Executive Producer Julie Plec just told us, “The actress Nina Dobrev has kissed Ian Somerhalder but the character of Elena has not.”

According to TVGuide.com:
Q: Is it true that we’re going to see Katherine again on The Vampire Diaries?
A: Yep, and much sooner than you think! Plus: Since this is a show about the walking dead, keep your eyes peeled for another assumed-dead lady to order a very rare filet at the Mystic Falls Grill very soon.

MTV reports, “It’s been difficult coping on Thursday nights without our beloved ‘Vampire Diaries’ to fill the time. Luckily, it’s now less than two weeks until the show returns. In advance of 2010′s first brand new episode (on January 21st), we’ve gotten our hands on these stills from the January 28th episode, called ‘Unpleasantville.’ You might notice that the characters are dressed in retro clothes — that’s for the ’50s-themed Sock Hop the Mystic Falls High gang will be be-bopping on over to in the episode.”
